I have never understood why this song isn’t better known.
A song about the heady rush of romance, the travails of accommodating each other, and the uncertainty of goodbyes, Stare at the Sun (co-written by Wesley Stace, aka John Wesley Harding), has an ebullient, caffeinated buzz to it, like if you took a Stones song and gave it to the VU or vice versa.
In fact, the album it comes from, Personal Record, which Friedberg and Stace co-wrote, is one of my favorites of the decade, sporting some sharp hooks and even sharper lyrics.
Anyway, this is one of those songs I should probably say more about, but it is so good that anything I have to say just feels like an intrusion.
